New mpox case confirmed in Nakuru, bringing caseload to 18
The cases are distributed across several counties: Nakuru (4), Nairobi (2), Mombasa (2), Kajiado (2), Bungoma (2), Taita Taveta (1), Busia (1), Makueni (1), Kericho (1), Uasin-Gishu (1), and Kilifi (1).
One new case of mpox has been confirmed in Nakuru County, according to the Ministry of Health. Heath CS Deborah Barasa on Wednesday noted that the total number of confirmed Mpox cases in the country now stand at 18.
The cases are distributed across several counties: Nakuru (4), Nairobi (2), Mombasa (2), Kajiado (2), Bungoma (2), Taita Taveta (1), Busia (1), Makueni (1), Kericho (1), Uasin-Gishu (1), and Kilifi (1). Currently, four individuals are under medical management, while 14 have fully recovered.

The health ministry said that 115 contacts have been identified, with 80 having completed the required 21-day follow-up.
Three of these contacts have tested positive for mpox, and 32 remain under examination. Since the outbreak began, 1,900,967 travellers have been screened at various Points of Entry (POE), with 14,311 screened in the past 24 hours.
The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) has tested 296 samples, with 18 positive results, 272 negative results, and six pending.
"The Ministry remains committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of all Kenyans, appreciating the public's ongoing cooperation in following health guidelines."
Kenyans are advised to stay vigilant by adhering to preventive measures such as avoiding close contact with infected individuals or their belongings and practising good hygiene through regular hand washing or using hand sanitisers.
On November 14, Kenya confirmed its first death from Mpox, as reported by Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni. Director General Patrick Amoth said the patient had pre-existing health complications.
In response to the outbreak, the Ministry of Health, with support from the WHO and other partners, has developed a national preparedness and response plan for mpox. This plan highlights 14 high-risk counties along the Northern Corridor, a critical transport route from the Kenya-Uganda border to Mombasa. Rapid response teams have been deployed to these areas to bolster surveillance efforts.
